Queertopia Consortium: About Us
About Us
I’m Joanne English, co-founder of Queertopia Consortium. Queertopia is a community-led organisation, born from a commitment to fostering belonging and improving healthcare access for the LGBTQIA+ community, especially for those from the global majority. With over a decade of experience in health, social care, and community support, I’ve witnessed firsthand the challenges that many face in accessing inclusive, compassionate services. My own experiences as a neurodiverse, first-generation Windrush descendant and a parent have fuelled my passion to make a difference.
At Queertopia, we live by our values, which guide every aspect of our work:
Togetherness: We believe in the power of community and shared experiences. Queertopia brings people together to create spaces of support, where everyone can feel connected and valued.
Openness: Transparency and honesty are at the heart of our approach. We are a safe space for open dialogue, where individuals can share their stories and experiences with pride, free from judgement.
Pride: We celebrate the resilience, strength, and diversity of the LGBTQIA+ community. Pride is at the core of our mission; we embrace each person’s unique identity, supporting them in their journey towards self-acceptance.
Inclusivity: Our doors are open to all. We actively work to break down barriers, ensuring that everyone, particularly those from the global majority, feels represented and supported.
Advocacy: We champion the rights and needs of the LGBTQIA+ community. Through education and partnership, Queertopia advocates for systemic change to build a more compassionate, equitable society for everyone.
These values reflect both my own principles and Queertopia’s mission to build a connected, inclusive future. Through partnership, trauma-informed care, and community support, we aim to create a space where every member feels empowered, respected, and celebrated.
